《创作很爽》三天两夜创作营•“生命中的朋友”团队 9-11/10/15


                         
生命中的朋友,有笑有泪有疯狂。



“我不会音乐怎么可能创作出一首歌?”
“我没学过乐器怎么会创作?”
“创作会不会很难?”
“怎么创作出一首歌叻?从何开始?”
“先有曲才有词还是先有词才有曲?”

相信热爱音乐想要创作的朋友一定都会遇到以上这些问题,而这些问题还不是全部。我们音谷贝特在这短短的三天里,确实完成了以上看似不可能达成的任务。当然,整个过程中,除了爆肝以外,还是爆肝。


从一开始组员们的培养默契,到绞尽脑汁地谱曲,然后写词遇到的瓶颈,接着没日没夜的练习就为了最后一天的迷你创作发表会,最后出来的作品,大家除了感动感激兴奋尖叫,就是击掌喝彩拥抱欢呼。

之后再次听到“创作不难咩?”这样的问题时,我们会微笑的说:“很难,可是 Nothing is impossible! 而且创作真他X的爽!”
所以朋友们,别再怀疑自己了!对自己的创作有信心!加入我们爱音乐孩子们的家庭!谱出动人的性格,写出坚定的信念=)

Mini Musical Theater 29-5-2015


我们人生充满着许多形形色色的第一次,当我们吸了这个华丽世界的第一口氧气,人生就这样开始了,而接踵而来的是不同情绪的第一次。
Our life is filled with many kinds of the first time; when we breath in the first oxygen gas of the luscious world, our life started. Yet, what follows are the emotions of the first time.

那么音谷贝特的第一次呢?我们是在这里开始的...
What about Incubator Workshop? We started from here..


随着2013年沙巴大学中华文化之夜的完美落幕,制作组的哥哥姐姐弟弟妹妹团聚在一起。不晓得是因为不舍还是对表演艺术的熊熊热忱,成立音谷贝特的想法浑然萌生了。自2013年在中秋之夜展现了专属音谷贝特的舞台演出,音谷贝特渐而活跃在大学里的每一个角落,把喜爱表演艺术的朋友聚集在一起。
With the perfect ending of UMS Chinese Cultural Night in the year 2013, boys and girls from the production team gathered together. Be it the dismay of dismissal, or the raging passion for performing arts, the idea of forming Incubator Workshop was initiated. Since the first ever stage performance in the Mid-autumn Celebration in the same year, Incubator Workshop became active in every corners in the university and continuously brings the people of same passion together.




音谷贝特于成立后,前前后后参与了不少演出。而今天,独立制作出一个自己的舞台表演已经不是一份妄想。这一切当然不容易。无数的会议、活动申请、音乐写作、剧本编写及频密的排练,造就了一场演出。值得开心的是,由始至终,团员们都齐心协力。
Incubator Workshop has performed in various occasions since its establishment. Till then, we think that making our own live performance solely by ourselves is no longer a dream. It was not easy but we took baby steps to work it out. Applications, meetings, brainstorms, music writings, script writings and practicing took us some times to cope with. It was grateful that throughout the hard days, we were together and never give up.


舞台、完整的音响系统、灯光装置、华丽的道具、优雅的服饰等等,是一个完整的舞台表演不可或缺的。然而,音谷贝特只有在有限的资源下,完成自己独立的舞台演出。对音谷贝特来说,这场迷你音乐舞台剧是一个可以展现自己一年里所学到的表演方式。
A proper stage, a complete sound system, a lighting set up, fancy props, elegant sets of costume, and so on.., we had NONE of them. We cracked our heads to figure out what was the best we could showcase. The mini musical theater meant so much to Incubator Workshop as it was the way to showcase what we have learnt throughout the year.




我们不是天生的艺术家,但是我们对表演艺术的热忱足以把我们拉进这个花花世界里。
We ain't born to be artists, but our love to arts draws us to the artistic world.






“我们获得很热烈的回响。我想观众们都很喜欢我们的表演编排方式和间中穿插的原创歌曲!” 此迷你音乐舞台剧的主席国祥说,“希望有更多朋友可以加入我们,一起把这一块创作及表演做下去。”

音谷打杂妹____郑苑盈



她和青青绿绿的东西很有缘,这次来沙巴也不列外。


苑盈说,来到沙巴大学,不参与活动,会有点不自在。
苑盈一直以来都住在山明水秀的吉打郊外,上Matriculation的时候也是都在山前的一所学院就读,直到来到了沙巴亚庇,她还是被山水给包围着。对于亚庇的气候与环境,苑盈很快就这样适应下来了。

苑盈一进入沙大就开始活跃于在许多的活动,这些活动或许对原创或华界文化没有太大的关系,但这也能开始让她在活动上了解到一些程序上的要点,无论是简单或是复杂,这一切,她都能够好好的吸取经验,好让自己在沙大的第一个学期充满学习的欲望。但是,由于某些因素而让她没法再度参与这个活动,让她留有些许的失望。

她不气馁,在第一届中华晚会的面试,她再一次拿出一些经验告诉筹委会她所能够带给中华晚会的贡献,当然她的一番诚意与她曾有的一些经验,让她再度有机会站在幕后担任工作人员。她回忆起说,在中学时代,她就是一个很喜欢参与活动的活跃分子。所以如果来到沙巴大学,不参与活动,会有点不自在。这也是她其中一个原因参与第二届中华晚会。

苑盈答应一起创造音谷贝特的原因是她还有一团未息的火在燃烧,
烧起她对写词的意念。
就这样,第一届中华晚会让她认识了音谷贝特的几位元帅。她所负责的岗位是制作部,而她先是认识到当时的制作总监梁家慎,还有熟悉音乐部分的陈信宏。 苑盈在这个团队里负责的是歌唱,偶尔她会给予表演者音准练习,好让中华晚会事半功倍。所以跟家慎和信宏在艺术这一部分有许多互动。在后期,她更对写词情有独钟,也因为这样,认识了演唱人Saito齐藤静惠和音谷贝特的核心与支持原创的王依婷。或许她是里头最年小的一位,所以再慢慢熟悉的情况下她开始觉得自己在这一群人当中能找到一些自己想要的东西。其实那就是搞更多的活动,而且是与自己最投契的一群人。

与其他元老一样,她答应一起创造音谷贝特的原因是她还有一团未息的火在燃烧,烧起她对写词的意念。也许这样,她对音谷贝特抱有期望,能够让她在未来的日子里,有更多的机会让自己的词面世于这个社会里。于是,她在音谷贝特里担当了打杂妹这个角色。

在音谷贝特刚刚起步时,她是以打杂的方式来与成员沟通。所谓打杂,就是她会记录所有开会得到的想法与程序,就像是位秘书,让音谷的书写程序更加完整。当时,依婷都对她做的一切竖起大拇指,原因是,她都一一能够把书写做的仔细。

在作词方面,苑盈从中华晚会直到音谷贝特成立,她已经作出了五首的词,而值得一提的是她的词在第二届中华晚会里被充当了当晚舞台剧里的主题曲与插曲,这对她来说是一种荣耀。过后的她还是会在空闲时写写词然后在上载到音谷曲库去,好让家慎和信宏有好的·资源去作曲并编成好听的一首歌曲。

一直到她慢慢升级为学姐,让她的课业越来越忙,甚至忙到有时连音谷的列常活动都被逼缺席,这对音谷来说是一大的遗憾,因为有她的存在,其实能够让学员获益不少,尤其是在音准与写词的心德这一块。她告诉我说,如果自己不再那么忙,她就可以让自己抽身在音谷里继续为音谷写多一点词,甚至协助音谷举办更多的活动。

她告诉我说,现在在音谷里,她会以比较低调的形式去为它争取更多的表演机会,她更是强调,不要失去对原创的热枕,有想法就要去坚持。

后记:我记得苑盈是个蛮追求完美的人,以前刚认识她的时候,她总是个拿起笔来就炯炯有神的作词人,她也是在我们有着各式各样会议时的打杂妹。可是如今,当她渐渐变为学姐当儿,也渐渐在音谷贝特的列常活动变得低调起来。我多希望她能够再拿回一些热情,好好经营音谷贝特。其实,她是最后一位有机会还在沙大看着音谷贝特成长的元老。


She has a destiny with greeneries and lushes.

Yuan Ying has always lived in the picturesque outskirts of Kedah. Her matriculation was also completed in a college facing a hill. Until she came to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, she is still surrounded by mountains and seas. Perhaps, this was why she adapted easily in the environment.

As early as her entrance to UMS, Yuan Ying has been actively involved in many activities. Those activities might not be linked directly to originality and the cultural aspects, but they were what make her to have some insights on procedural elements in both simple and complex particulars. All these experiences leaded her to more desire of learning more things in her first semester at university. However, due to certain factors, she could not participate in those activities again.

The disappointment did not discourage her to join other activities. Her sincerity and past experiences have successfully secured her an opportunity to work at backstage. She recalled that in her high school, she was an active member in participating activities. If she did not join some in the university, she would certainly feel uncomfortable. Therefore, she joined the Chinese Cultural Night 2013.

As such, she got to know the pioneers of Incubator Workshop. She was responsible for the production department in the cultural night. She first met Ka Shem, the production director and Sin Hoong, the music enthusiast in the committee. Yuan Ying was responsible to give performers musical intonation practices, therefore she had many interactions with two of them. In the later stage, she had a soft spot in lyrics writing. Because of that, she became more familiar with Saito, a vocalist and Ee Theng, the founder of Incubator Workshop. She was the youngest among all. However, this did not hinder her to include herself in this group of people as she slowly found what she always wanted. In fact, it was to engage more activities with a congenial group of friends.  

Like other pioneers, the reason she agreed to create Incubator Workshop together was that she had a flaming desire to write lyrics. She hoped that through Incubator Workshop, her views could be delivered by words. Uncomplainingly, she took up the “odd jobs” in Incubator Workshop.

During the first phase of establishment, Yuan Ying served as a secretary for Incubator Workshop. She kept all meeting records and procedures organized. Other than that, she facilitated a smooth communication flow among members. During activities, she covered up whichever she could to ensure a smooth program flow. At that time, Ee Theng was truly impressed by her ability and passion.

Lyrics-writing wise, Yuan Ying has produced 5 lyrics from the cultural night 2013 to the establishment of Incubator Workshop. It is worth to mention that one of her lyrics was honoured as the theme song for the cultural night 2013. After which, she restlessly kept writing and uploading her lyrics to the lyrics library of Incubator Workshop to serve as a good resource for music composers to work with.

Until she has become a senior, her workload in studies got heavier and heavier. Most of the time, she was forced to skip the weekly activities of Incubator Workshop. Her presence, in fact, benefited members in intonation and lyrics writing. She said that if she was no longer busy, she could get herself to engage more in Incubator Workshop.

As of today, she seeks for more performing opportunities for Incubator Workshop instead, in the background. She stressed that do not ever lose the passion for originality. If there is a dream then persist it!

Epilogue: The perfectionism of Yuan Ying is still what I could relate her with. When I first met her, she was always making a writing. I appreciate how she willingly kept everything in order. However, things change when she is becoming a senior. She rarely appeared in routine activities. I truly hope that her passion could be retrieved and she could slowly pick up what she has missed. In fact, she is the only pioneer that still at the university. She is the only one who can watch and grow together with Incubator Workshop!

日新月异____陈信宏

音乐创作,对信宏来说并不是天赋,而是后天建立起的兴趣加努力。他知道,学习音乐的漫漫长路是无止无尽,也因为这样,音乐会是多姿多彩。

在求学的过程中,音乐一直都是信宏非常讲究的部分。小学时期就在铜乐队里混的他,接触过口风琴和喇叭;中学时期则在管乐队里吹奏法国号。他从小学习的都是音乐演奏,一直到他买了吉他,才开始自学和了解与流行音乐创作相关的乐理。信宏有提到,他自己不是一个很好的演奏家。但是对流行乐和摇滚乐非常喜好,甚至对音乐创作有一股热爱。曾用口风琴吹出心旋律的他,就像是无法避免创作这宿命般的事。


信宏说,要面对自己的缺点,也要接受批评,因此不要害怕去面对。
当信宏拥有了自己的吉他后,透过网络资料自学和弦,开始自弹自唱自创曲。直到大二,找到吉他编辑软件后,信宏才开始有了可以满足自己一直以来对摇滚乐的喜爱,至此才认真学习弦乐理。信宏有提到自学创作因为网络资料的方便,自学也相对的简单,重要的是个人得挨过这个学习的过程。当然,不可避免的是要面对自己的缺点,也要接受批评,因此不要害怕去面对。


信宏觉得要在学习音乐持之以恒,思维里的创意是不可或缺的。每作的一首曲会在音乐修行路上为自己定位。歌曲中,他希望让每个人知道自己喜欢什么又或者憧憬什么。在自己一心创造的曲库里,他也希望能让一个人找回最初的感动,同一首歌在不同的人生阶段给人不同的领悟。作一首歌,能带来的是一次又一次对音乐的热情,重燃出更大的火焰。所以信宏对音乐是带着阿Q精神一起出发。


音乐启蒙时期的信宏,最爱飞儿乐团,大无限乐团和David Cook。现在喜欢的音乐人不计其数,这其中有林宥嘉,轻晨电,张悬,ryo,米津玄师, Neru,麻枝準,乌屋茶房,HUSH,梶浦由记、ALI PROJECT、泽野弘之、蘑菇帝国等。


在于文字这一块,中学时期的他,沉迷于郭敬明的作品,而模仿他的文风在博客上写一些叙事和抒情的文字;大学时期的他,沉迷哲学,主要是尼采的作品,日本动漫中的深度作品也对他带来影响。信宏的个人分享,阅读求精求深刻不求多,个人的偶像多厉害,一个人就有机会变得多厉害。和音乐创作的共同点是一个人也要熬过一个学习的曲线。


越是长大,这世界的规则就越是模糊不定。

越是枪林弹雨,

就越要我们从容而积极地面对。

音谷贝特缘起于第二届沙大中华文化之夜。信宏从中最大的收获,除了认识许多新朋友之外,还意识到 “人人有别” 这件事。不一样的经历,对会对未来的展望造就不一样的个体,甚至不一样的沟通方式,从而延伸出的用词和理解都会因误差而导致沟通故障。爱哲学的他去了图书馆借了一些有关性格分类和性格互动的书籍,并分析这些人与人之间的关系和交际的基础。借此机会,能在一个团体中冷静及有效率的让自己的意见一一发出,并让团员们知道他想表达的想法。对于信宏而言,音谷贝特的成立有一定的必然性在里面。文化之夜结束后一群爱玩艺术的人无所事事又无处可去,自然就聚在了一起,做想做的事。


信宏对音谷贝特有一个期许,希望日后不管浪静风平或风风雨雨里,音谷贝特都能成为大家发展各自爱好的温床,在或许不被了解和不被看好的环境里,都有一个能自由发挥的容身之所,在互相的陪伴下,在对艺术有更深的接触和体验的同时,不至于太过孤单。他也为音谷贝特送上祝福,为将来干杯。信宏希望,音谷贝特这平台不只是让成员们有个给艺术与原创一个安稳的避风港,也让大家有一个繁盛多彩的港湾,在那嬉戏,品尝每一位成员所酝酿出来的作品。

后记:第一次与信宏接触是在沙大中华文化之夜,那时听信宏提及自学乐理,小编觉得不可思议。那时候的主题曲《遗典一滴》,就出自于信宏的创作。后来,信宏开始与几个组员分享文字创作这一块,才发现,原来他不只对音乐创作有研究,在文字创作上也有相对的程度。

The creation of music, to Sin Hoong, is not a talent but has to be acquired by establishing an interest in addition to making tremendous efforts. The long path of learning music is endless. Because of this, music is colorful.

       During his journey to pursue studies, Sin Hoong has been very particular about music. He learned to play musical instruments from organ, trumpet to French horn by joining the orchestra. Things changed when he first bought a guitar. He started to learn the musical theory related to pop music. He mentioned that he was not a good player, but he has a strong enthusiasm towards pop and rock music. On top of that, his love towards music composition overwhelms.

       Ever since he owned a guitar, and with the help of Internet accessibility, he learned to play chord and create own music. Until his second year in university, he found himself a guitar editing software. This was when he could satisfy his hunger for rock music. He thinks that self-learning is possible and relatively simple. It is important that the individual could get through the learning process. It is inevitable to face your own shortcomings, but also to accept criticism as well as to face the problems arisen.

       Sin Hoong realized that perseverance and creative thinking are the essential elements in the music learning process. Each musical piece created represents the self-positioning in the musical path. He hopes that, through his music, everyone would know what they like and what they envision for. He wishes that his efforts in building his own music library would make back the initial move of an individual. You might be surprised that at different stages of life, the same song gives a different insights to an individual. Making a song itself is therefore the perfect tool to bring the passion for music, as well as to rekindle the flame in you.

       Sin Hoong was enlightened with his favourite music from FIR and David Cook. Recently, he listens to countless number of musicians and singers including Yoga Lin, Light Morning Power, Zhang Xuan, Ryo, Kenshi Yonezu, Neru, Aji Jun, HUSH, Yuki Kajiura, ALI PROJECT, Hiroyuki Sawano and Mushroom Empire.

       Regarding to words and writing, on the other hand, he indulged himself in Guo’s works during his secondary school. He even imitated his style of narrative and lyrical writing on his own blog. However, he was obsessed with philosophy, mainly the works of Nietzsche, during his university period. Japanese in-depth anime works also have an impact on him. Sin Hoong shared that readings should be refined and concentrated but not seek for quantity. The more powerful one’s idol is, the greater the opportunity one to become more powerful.

The more grown up we are, the more uncertain we are towards the rules of this world.
The more hail of bullets, the calmer and more positive we have to be in order to face them.

       Incubator Workshop was originated from the UMS Chinese Cultural Night 2013. The greatest gain to Sin Hoong, in addition to know many new friends, was to realize that everyone is different. Different experiences would lead to the different vision to the future, or even a different way of communication would cause communication breakdown merely because of the extended presentation and understanding are different. To study on this aspect, he even went to the library and read about character classification and interactions. By understanding this, he took the opportunity to raise his viewpoints in a team, calmly and effectively. For Sin Hoong, the establishment of Incubator Workshop has a certain inevitability in it. The glamorous closing of the cultural night naturally gathered the artistic enthusiasts and formed the Incubator Workshop today.

       Sin Hoong hopes that in future, regardless of ups and downs, Incubator Workshop would be a hotbed for artistic enthusiasts to develop their passion. Perhaps, Incubator Workshop could be the perfect shelter to play around freely in the harsh environment wherein we are not trusted nor understood. In the company of each other, we could have a deeper contact and experience with arts without being lonely. He blesses Incubator Workshop for its best, and cheers for its future. He wishes that this platform not only allows members to have an original arts’ safe haven, but also to be playful, colourful and eventually to taste every single works brewed.

Epilogue: The first contact with Sin Hoong was at the Cultural Night. Listening to his self-learnt music was an incredible experience. Not forgetting to mention, the theme song “Once Upon An Old Town” was from him! Later, Sin Hoong started to share words and writing. Till then, only I realized that he not only has a good grasps on music but also creative writing.

An Evening by the Beach 27-6-2015

It was a beach day.

The sand was soft and the waves were gentle. The water was white-capped and the wind was watching a young troupe walking towards the seashore.

"A show is starting in a minute! Want to stop and watch?"


He willfully strummed his guitar, turning the beach into a musical playground. The rest of us started to sing along the rhythm. This evening, the beach was ours.

We love how we connect to people, which the way is called MUSIC.



 And the evening sky burned fiery red with a neon orange mix. While the sun seemed to be fading into a deep sleep, we happily glorified our accomplishment! Till then, our footsteps were imprinted. We love you, Tanjung Aru!

音乐净化灵魂Music purify soul___梁家慎

是我们的作曲人;他是我们的编曲;他是我们的演奏家;他是我们的录音师;他是我们的音乐监制 梁家慎。


刚踏上风下之乡这片土地,对于家慎而言,不熟悉的环境让他内心夹杂着不安。也许因为不安,让他在作音乐这一块变得行事低调。可是上天总会是让拥有才能的人有表现自己的机会。就这样,第一年的他,加入了沙大中华晚会筹委会的阵容,对他而言,非常兴奋。他期许自己可以通过办活动而从中学习。即使他仍然把自己创作的兴趣埋藏在不为人知的深谷里


音乐净化灵魂
天意弄人,在第二届的沙大中华晚会里,他偶然让当年已成为学姐的依婷发现他创作出众的才能,让他开始为歌舞剧的歌曲创作,投入了筹备的整个过程。很值得一提的是,家慎是有史以来第一位在第一个学期就拿到要职的传奇人物!他的角色从一开始的制作部秘书、策划组主任、歌舞剧歌曲制作人、直到在晚会上担任了舞台总监。这一些,对他来说并不容易。换而言之,这一位刚踏入大学的新人类在第二届的沙大中华晚会早已尝尽在大学里办活动的风风雨雨。当中的压力必然不是那么容易可以征服的。


在短短一年里,表现出色的他从中学习了如何承担、如何运作一个团队、一些舞台制作的细节与概念,以及传承的定义。除此之外,他更为晚会带来了许多原创。他对音乐的元素是纯粹而简单的。而这一些原创都是他在熬夜过后,没有足够睡眠之下所创作出来的。虽然很难熬,但是他并没有忽略掉任何一个音符,因为他要的是把词画上适合的的音符,让整首歌变得有灵魂,有舞台剧中的故事情感。就这样,他一共为了晚会筹备了四首的好歌曲。 晚会结束后,他对音乐的热忱并未褪去,而且开始对这一片州土有了信心。这一次的冲刺,对音乐有深厚喜好的家慎,在战友们的号召下,一起创立了音谷贝特这个平台。


家慎非常清楚地知道,这是一个让他有机会发挥自己兴趣的平台。秉持着这一念对音乐的执着,他意决和大家站在同一阵线上,为开启音谷贝特的旅途而努力。他开始增加编曲的知识,也延续更多原创的意念,继续为音谷贝特谱出更多的曲子。这可说是在沙大,有音乐的地方就看到家慎的作品。 当然,精通音乐的他,歌唱技巧也在他的掌握之内。他是个对音乐热诚一点也不放过的猎人,他不惜一切让自己的水准更上一层楼,他也丝毫不吝于分享自身的经验,开始透过一次又一次的例常活动,分享种种唱歌的技巧给学员们受惠。在每一个转音的练习,每一个尾音的修饰,所有的音准,节拍,他都一一耐心地指导与纠正。当家慎插秧种苗之时,也会有收获的一天。音谷贝特团员们第一次的翻唱歌曲,就这样在商讨之后很顺利就诞辰了。当中,音谷翻唱系列里的选曲,录音,编辑及弹奏,一切都由家慎单刀完成。


家慎默默许下一个承诺,他会尽他自己所能,继续地支持音谷贝特
家慎说,在音谷贝特的日子里,是一种非笔墨所能形容的喜悦。他不但能把自己学习到的东西传授给更多的成员,也能在这陌生的州土找到更多与他一样带着热诚认识音符的人。在这里,他可以和大家一起透过玩乐而学习,彻底享受每一个表演的机会,享受每一个筹备的过程。


家慎告诉小记,在距离毕业的日子越近的时候,当然,最想念的,会是在音谷贝特里的所有回忆。在投入音谷贝特的过程中,他从制作一首首的原创,磨练出自己的编曲能力。每一次的编曲,都成了他的学习过程,在学习之余,他赋予词生命,一石二鸟。


家慎希望这份对原创的热情,会由一代又一代的沙大生延绵不断的传下去,把音谷贝特的音乐库装的满满的都是音乐的热忱。也许今天以后,这再也不是默默,因为家慎曾默默许下一个承诺,他会尽他自己所能,继续地支持音谷贝特,即使自己有一天已不再沙大活跃。


后记:结束了与家慎的访问后,小记开始想起在制作沙大中华晚会其中一首歌曲时,那轻快跳跃的旋律。透过旋律里,可以看到这个热爱音乐的他,夹杂着一些童心,却也可以带起大家的共鸣。这或许就是他的长项,以小清新系为品牌




He is our composer; he is our arranger; he is our pianist; he is our recording engineer; he is our music producer – Leong Ka Shem.


        Upon setting out on his journey in the land below the wind, the unfamiliar environment has thrown him into mixed feelings of excitement and anxiety. Perhaps due to this, he was modest towards music-making and gradually soft-pedalled his musical storms. During his first year in the university, he joined the organizing team for the Chinese Cultural Festival. He was overwhelmed with joy for his inclusion in the team. He hoped that he could learn something through the event. At that point, he concealed his musical talents and immersed himself in something else he never come across with.


        The shine of this diamond in the rough, however, has been unearthed in the midst of the preparation of the event. His outstanding talent in music writing has leaded him to compose a list of songs for the musical dance theater, and thereof put himself into the whole process of preparation. It is worth mentioning that Ka Shem was the legendary representative who has been appointed as the key position in university events, as early as in his first semester of study. His role was ranged from the secretary of production, the leader of program planning, the musical writer, to the stage manager of the theater. For him, it was not easy at all. In other words, this new leaf who has just entered the university, has already tasted the ups and downs that might not be experienced by his peers. Inevitably, it was not easy to conquer the pressure in between.


        In just a year, he has been equipped with various skills such as how to undertake a responsibility, how to run a team, a number of details and concepts on stage production, as well as the rationale to inherit a culture. In addition, he brought a generous element on the originality of the musical dance theater. It is not difficult to realize his purity and simplicity in his musical works. Nonetheless they were produced from a number of sleepless nights. As such, he has written a total of four songs and a few other background music in a tight time constraint. Although it was tough, he was very particular in every single musical notes of his music. Without his music flowing between the stage play, it would be merely one without a soul. In addition to his flaming passion for music, the greatest reward from the tough year was that he began to feel this land as his second home. Together with his enthusiastic team members, he created Incubator Workshop.


        Ka Shem knows that this would serve as the perfect platform for him to exert his interest. Upholding his dedication to music, he made his intention clear and began to work on the establishment of Incubator Workshop. He enhanced his musical knowledge, particularly in music arrangement. Meanwhile, he extended more original ideas and continued to compose new music works. Certainly, his proficiency in music was not limited on music-making but also on vocals. He is definitely an aggressive musical hunter wherein he restlessly grasps on related skills and always wanted to make improvements. Above this all, he did not hesitate to share his knowledge. Through routine activities, Ka Shem benefited other members by sharing singing skills and guided them with full patience. In just a few months, he successfully produced a series of song covers, which covered song selection, practice, recording and editing.


        In the days with Incubator Workshop, he said that it was a joy beyond description. Not only passing the knowledge he has equipped with, he also get to know more enthusiastic talents on this lovely land. Here, he could learn together with others while having so much fun. Here, he thoroughly enjoyed every performance and the process of each preparation.


        As the graduation day is just right at the corner, what makes Ka Shem miss the most is of no doubt, the moments and sweet bitter memories in Incubator Workshop. During the days in Incubator Workshop, he has enhanced his ability in musical arrangement by producing one after another original music pieces. He was the one who honored a soul to the lyrics, and he was the one who created the ambient atmosphere for the songs.


        Ka Shem hopes that the passion for originality, not only in music, will be continually passed down from generation to generation of graduates. One day, the music library of Incubator Workshop will be charmed with the soulful works. He made a promise to himself, that he would do his best to support Incubator Workshop even if he is no longer in the university.


Epilogue:  Upon completing the interview with Ka Shem, a playful melody of his came into my mind. It was one of the song from the stage play. Through this melody, it is noticeably that his love for music is mixed up with some pure and innocent elements, yet his works always resonate with people’s common feelings. Perhaps this is his most attractive strength, and this is what makes him whole!

当代灵魂演唱人___齐藤静惠 SAITO




当代灵魂演唱人


很有性格的齐藤静惠是音谷贝特的第一代演唱人。她的声色沉重而特别,就像咖啡,越喝越浓。然而,她在音谷贝特扮演着的并不是只有演唱人那么简单……


静惠这个名字听起来一定是非常陌生,但是当你听到SAITO这个名字时,你就会知道这个人在沙大乐坛里曾经是风云人物。爸爸是日本人;妈妈是马来西亚华侨的她一直以来都非常光荣自己的身份。也许是特别;也许是她人生里的其中一个特征。SAITO从小就喜欢唱歌,不管是中文歌,或是英文日语歌,也或者韩国歌,她都能够轻松掌握。只能说她是一个语文能力非常强的演唱人。

虽然说SAITO喜欢唱歌,但她却没有学过真正的声乐。她是靠着听专业歌者的演唱技巧而慢慢把自己的声乐设定起来。一切说起来,她对学唱歌的欲望是非一般的高,所以才照就今天的成就。除此之外,SAITO也学会了弹钢琴的技巧,虽然不是她的强项,但她还是能够弹出许多乐曲。

大学时期的SAITO很顺利的在第一届沙大中华晚会试音面试里脱颖而出,获得当时担当评审的学长们青睐,让她终于在千百人的面前表演。她述说,当时唱的歌是邓丽君金曲,歌唱表演是数十位的沙大演唱人一起合作。由于时间有限,SAITO的出列时间并没有很长,加上SAITO自己本身并没有在当晚演绎得特好,所以当下她给自己的评语是需要更多的时间和技巧来磨练自己。值得一提的是,她还是很满意当晚自己的表现。

她庆幸自己在沙大中华晚会里认识了王依婷,然后成了好朋友。那是因为SAITO认为这是能和她一起疯狂的朋友。她们两人都在第二届的沙大中华晚会有着各自的岗位,而SAITO这一次是扮演着演唱人与演员的角色。由于和乐团的练习较少,所以这一次的表演比起第一届的表现大大滑落。但她并没有对这种局面感到失落,而更是努力的练好自己的技巧。

就那一次,她开始喜欢上了原创歌曲,她喜欢唱着朋友一起写的歌和曲,因为她觉得原唱者就像是歌曲的根,扎得好就能够把歌曲捧上台,甚至有机会在大学里发表。于是,她答应了要求,在音谷贝特里担当演唱人一职。

在音谷贝特成立后的日子,SAITO开始有机会表演,也预期所料,她把原创搬上舞台,而这一次的表演就在沙大中秋灯笼晚会,她非常满意自己的表演。她说,这是因为大家的努力,才让自己的表演在当天如此成功。她补充说,虽然是音谷贝特第一次的表演,当时也有很多事并未完全组织起来,但是在过程中,她享受着大家一起练习演唱原创歌曲的乐趣。

从此,她就是音谷贝特里的第一代演唱人。如果没有她,原创的歌就没有了灵魂。而现在,她虽然再也没有沙大里演出,但她现在还为音谷贝特做着文书类似的幕后工作,她凭着会员们的每次报告以及元老们的意见,把文书一篇篇整理好,留在属于音谷贝特的电子笔记本里。她在音谷贝特有着音谷代表人物的称号,那是因为SAITO永远都是以热诚去催促会员记得要出席列常活动的那个人。

她告诉小记,如果日子允许的话,她希望音谷要更早成立,把地基打得稳一点,那么今天的音谷贝特就会是比现在更强的音谷贝特。所以,她对现在的管理层也有一定的信心,因为她相信,这一班与她有同样梦想的伙伴们能够把音谷贝特搞的更强。



后记:原来齐藤静惠就是她啊!小记其实有点晃然大悟原因是,跟她同一间系院三年现在才发现她的名字就叫齐藤静惠。2014年的盆踊日本节,近距离看着她演唱“后来”的日语版本,她一点也不怯场,甚至还有很多观众和她一起合唱高举双手,共鸣得很。也许,她就是个自学演唱家,天才般的自学演唱家。

The Soul Vocalist - Saito Sizue

She has a distinctive character. She has a unique but profound voice. She is among one of the most outstanding vocalist we ever have.

Saito Sizue- this name might sounds familiar to you. She is very proud with her identify of mixed race of Japanese and Chinese. Due to her identify, perhaps, her presence is always attentive to the people around her. You might not know her well enough if you never realize that she is so talented in singing. Since her early childhood, singing has become her utmost interest. Markedly, she has a good grasp on songs of different languages ranged from Mandarin, English, Japanese and Korean.

Surprisingly, Saito has never attended a professional vocal class before. She said that she learned to sing by listening to professional singers and thereby, she set her own vocal up.  It could be deduced that she has a strong desire to sing, which leaded her achievement today. Apart of that, Saito can play piano and violin too.

In the university, Saito stood out from the audition of the first Chinese Cultural Night event. Her singing has received a good recognition from the reviewers. Thereof, she successfully grabbed the chance to sing. She was so thrilled to be included in the oldies medley performance in the hall accommodated with audiences up to a few thousands. There were UMS idols, she said, singing along with her. The performance was satisfactory. However, she realized that she had to practice more and more to improve on her skills.

She said she was glad to know Ee Theng during the event. She treasures this friend so much as they can do countless crazy things together. In the 2nd Chinese Cultural Night, each of them had their own roles. Saito was the actress as well as the vocalist for the musical dance theater during the event. It was a full musical band accompanied live performance. For her parts, however, she thinks that the performance was not satisfactory as they did not have the adequate time to synchronize with the musical band. Nonetheless, this did not discourage her but instead she pushed herself to do better in the following performances.

She did not expect but to get so attached to original songs. Her involvement in the performance highlighting original songs leaded her to start singing original songs written by her friends. A vocalist is the root of an original song, she commented. If the song is well presented, she feels proud to perform the song on stage and make it publishable. Owing to this interest and vision, she agreed to immerse herself in Incubator Workshop.

Upon the establishment of Incubator Workshop, Saito started to perform during their first performance. As in her expectations, their original songs were played on stage. She was astonished by their first performance. Despite the facts that there were a lot of unsettlements during the early stage of Incubator Workshop, she said she truly enjoyed the moments practicing new songs with the team.

She was the first to sing, and the first to act in Incubator Workshop. Without her, the original works would not be graced with a soul. Today, she no longer performs in UMS. Instead, she puts tremendous efforts on administrative works in the background. She collects and keeps every documents of Incubator Workshop in order. She owns the name of the representative feature in Incubator Workshop. This is because she is the one who always give so much inspirations and motivations to everyone.

She added that she wished Incubator Workshop could be formed earlier. If that is the case, she would strengthen the foundation of Incubator Workshop to a greater extent. She is confident that the current management committee will make Incubator Workshop better. She will be always here to support and to work together with the bunch of awesome people who having the same passion and dream!

Epilogue: I have no idea that this girl is Saito Sizue! I had enjoyed her performance so much during the Bon Odori 2014. The Japanese song she sang is still fresh in my mind. She was so charming and I like how audiences sang together with her. The atmosphere was just perfect! Perhaps, she is a born vocalist. She is a brilliant and talented vocalist!
